Over the next month or so I will be hosting a number of 3-hour design clinics throughout various Microsoft Technology Centers across the Midwest which will focus on Video conferencing in Lync Server 2010 and how to leverage third-party video conferencing solutions to extend the overall experience and capabilities. Additional events are also being held across the country (the schedule is included below).
These will be highly-interactive sessions driven primarily off a whiteboard (basically zero PowerPoint slides) and attendee participation is highly encouraged as often there is more than one way to architect different solutions and different environments across varying business sectors will ultimately have unique goals in mind. Discussions will range from technical topics (like traffic signaling paths) to best practices and real-world usage.
The goal of these design clinics are two-fold: to provide a base level understanding of how video conferencing works in Microsoft Lync Server 2010 and its impact on traditional enterprise networks, and then to expand that design by demonstrating how third party video conferencing solutions integrate with Lync. Open discussions about leveraging this type of interoperability for video will focus on topics like extended scalability and resiliency, enriched end-user experience, mobility, recording, and connectivity to standards-based solutions.
Topics to be discussed will revolve around these core subjects, building from basic connectivity through a resilient multi-site environment.

Update 7/18 – Registration added for Baltimore sessions and date changed to August 7th.
Hi Jeff,
will there be any way to join online, or these are only on-site events?
Richard, (ironically) these video-focused events are intended for in-person attendance only as they are intended to be hands-on and registration will be limited in numbers to help foster a workshop experience versus a larger group lecture. That being said we may look at providing remote attendance to some of the events if there are few requests for it.
In that case I think I am not flying to the US just for your excellent presentation 🙂
Hmm,
Is it wrong that i'm over in the states on holiday and got excited that one of the dates matches when I'm in LA….
How to explain this to the wife… 😮
Any chance of coming to Dallas?
Microsoft and Polycom do have offices in the DFW area so if we schedule additional events after these that market may be an option.
Please Record the Event, or Setup a Webcast. BTW…Your Blog is Awesome! Keep up the Good Work.
Looking forward to the Baltimore, or Herndon event! I know of a few others that would be interested. Many are not convinced Polycom is a good fit with Lync. They need to see the value it brings.
Any ETA on Baltimore registration?
Yes, I've just added the registration link to the table (note that the date has changed from the 9th to the 7th.)
To echo Keith's comment above, please record or webcast the event!
Would have loved to attend this but traveling from Norway for a 3 hour clinic.. might be stretching it a little too much. So yes, please record or webcast the event 🙂
We have not been able to record any of the past events but with the popularity of this format I may look at recording one and posting it online at some point. If I do I'll update this post with a link.
In one with Chris right now. GREAT session
